Kirkwood Delaware is an unincorportated community in central New Castle County Delaware. It is also known as Kemps corner or Saint Georges Station. It is along DE Route 71 and is very close to Lums Pond.
Kirkwood Delaware is named after Robert kirkwood the revolutionary war hero. Robert Kirkwood, a graduate of Newark Acadamy (later known as University of Delaware), headed a regiment that won fame at the Battle of Camden and were called “The Blue Hens Chickens”. The University of Delaware chose its mascot to honor Robert Kirkwood.
The entertainment and employment opportunities of a major metropolitan area are roughly an hour away in either Philadelphia or Baltimore via I-95. State Parks, county parks and even smaller community parks are within walking or biking distance of virtually every residence.
