Listing Your Delaware Home-Getting Ready

Curb appeal in a Delaware Home

Listing Your Delaware Home

If you are listing your Delaware home, you need to prepare it for the sale and that starts at the front of the home.  Before you go out and take a look at your “curb appeal”, take a minute and think about what attracts you to a home.  Most of these things don’t take a lot of time or money, but can definitely draw homebuyers in for a look.  Remember the saying, “you only get one chance to make a first impression” .  Well, first impressions can make a big difference.

Landscaping for curb appeal

Lets start with the landscaping.  One of the biggest things you can do is working on your landscaping.  Trim any bushes and trees, especially any that block the view of your home.  Next, take a look at the flower beds and clean out any weeds. If you have the money, consider remulching the flower beds-it can make a big difference in the appearance.  Depending on the time of year, consider adding some seasonal flowers for color or maybe just a few pots on the porch.

The Front DoorFront Door

One of the next things you may want to take a look at is the front of the home itself.  Does the front door need painting or replacing?  Now is the right time to take care of it!  Replacing your front door is one of the few home improvements that most experts agree will recover a large percentage of  it’s value.

Check and make sure the doorbell is working.  Wash the mailbox and make sure if you have a porch it is kept swept.  Get a doormat for people to wipe their feet on before entering your home.

Windows, Gutters, and Paint

Clean your windows inside and out.  Are any of your windows older and sticking?  A little soap can help lubricate older windows!

Now, take a look at your gutters.  Do they need to be cleaned?

Finally, take a look at the paint.  If it is peeling, now is the time to scrape and paint!

These are just a few of the suggestions for the outside of your home.  Remember, first impressions count.  With a little hard work and maybe a small investment, you can make your home stand out from the crowd!
