The Best Pizza in Newark DE

There’s nothing quite like pizza. People love pizza and will argue over what type of pizza is the best. However what makes the best pizza is a matter of opinion.

Personally, I love all types of pizza. I really think I could live on pizza and coffee.

Before we get into the Newark Delaware Pizza scene, let’s take a look at the different types of pizzas.

Types of Pizza

Neapolitan Pizza

Neapolitan Pizza is often considered the" original pizza”. It was brought to this country by Italian immigrants. The dough is made with a special wheat flour that makes the crust crunchy and thin. Unlike many other pizzas, this pizza doesn’t pile on the toppings. The addition of minimal toppings is done to keep the crust crisp. Typical toppings include tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil.

Chicago Style

Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is thick with toppings and has a medium crust thickness. This pizza requires additional cooking time because of the thickness. This pizza is known for the cheese which is usually placed on the bottom and the other toppings are added on top of the cheese. The sauce is placed on the top layer. You’ll usually need a knife and fork to enjoy this one!

Sicilian Pizza

Sicilian Pizza is normally made in a rectangular shape. The crust is thick, and the pizza is a great choice for a crowd because it’s often large. It’s popular to top a Sicilian pizza with a stronger cheese than one would normally see on a pizza. Alternately, some Sicilian pizzas are topped without the use of cheese. This is known as tomato pie.

California Style

California Style Pizza is known for the out of the ordinary toppings. If you’re interested in toppings that include things like goat cheese, BBQ chicken, broccoli, or even salads… this is the pizza for you! Dessert and breakfast pizzas are considered California styled.

New York Style

New York Style Pizza is made to be folded in half, which makes it easier to eat for people on the go. Because it’s made to be folded, the toppings aren’t piled on like some pizzas. The crust is typically thin and crisp.

While there are several other pizza types, they are variations of one of the above-styled pizzas with a change in toppings or crust design.

Best Pizza Places in Newark Delaware

Although these pizza places are rated on my own personal opinion, I did check the google reviews to make sure they were consistent with my opinions. These are all located within the Newark City limits or just beyond. At some point, I will go outside the city limits and do a post on the Greater Newark area best pizza places.

I think you’ll have a marvelous time exploring these pizza restaurants in search of your perfect pizza!

Honorable Mention

Peace a Pizza-Snap Custom Pizza

Peace a pizza is a small chain of pizza shops. They offer a range of pizzas from cheese or pepperoni to a Veggie Goat( red sauce, baked eggplant, mozzarella, diced tomato, black olives, goat cheese and parsley). Peace a Pizza also offers salads in addition to their pizza. Peace a Pizza had a great following. Snap Custom Pizza will be run by the same ownership group that founded Peace a Pizza 20 years ago. Snap Pizza will be offering custom made pizzas for $7.99 with five different kinds of sauces and many different toppings. There will also be signature pizzas . Snap Pizza will also serve salads and grain bowls. If Snap pizza is as good as Peace a Pizza was, it should be another great place to enjoy a pizza.
