Buying a New Home-How to Choose
When you are buying a new home, there are many things to consider. Sometimes it can be tough to choose between one home and another. Here are some things to consider when making your choice.
Location, Location, Location
There is a reason this became a cliché. Location is one of the biggest considerations when you are buying a home. One of the main reasons people will choose one area over another is the school district. If you have children or are getting ready to start having a family, the best school district can be the reason you choose a home. Other reasons location can play a reason can be shopping, parks, commute to work and whether you like the area.
Make a Must Have List for your new home
You should make a list of all the things that your new home must have. That list is different for everyone, but some things you may want to think about are:
- Basement or garage
- Living room/dining room/family room
- Number of bedrooms
- Number of bathrooms
- Lot size
- Kitchen, style
- Age of home
- Style of home
Make a Wish List for Your New Home
You should make a list of things that aren’t must haves, but that you would like to have if possible. Don’t worry if you have some things that you can’t decide which list an item should be on. You may find yourself going back and forth on some things.
Does the Floor Plan work for you
When you get inside the home, walk around and imagine yourself living there. Some homes you may only need to be in a couple of minutes to decide. Other homes you may want to stay in the home longer. The important thing is to take your time and make the right decision for you.
Condition of the home
Even if you think you have found the perfect home, you may have to think about what condition it is in. If it needs work, you may be incurring extra costs to get the home to where you need it to be.
This can be a very important part of your decision. After you have been prequalified for a mortgage, you will be looking for a home in your price range. Buying a home is a big financial decision, so you will want to get the best deal. Look over the information on the neighborhood and area so you feel comfortable with the price when you have made your decision. You will want to be happy about buying a new home for a long time!
