Proceeds from the event benefit the Downtown Newark Partnership, University of Delaware Department of Hospitality Business Management and the Newark Arts Alliance. This is just one of many events that the City of Newark and the University of Delaware cooperate to bring to the Newark area. Founded by former Mayor Vance Funk, and now co-chaired by Mr. Funk, Mayor Polly Sierer, and Dr. Sheryl Kline, Chair of the University of Delaware’s Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management Department, Taste of Newark 2017 is one of the biggest annual events in Newark and definitely is a favorite of anyone who loves great food. It celebrates it’s 14 anniversary this year. Taste of Newark is held on the Old College lawn if it is sunny, but if it rains it will be held at Clayton Hall This year’s event features nearly 50 restaurants accompanied by some of the area’s fine wineries, celebrity cooking demonstrations and more. The event is organized by the Downtown Newark Partnership and the University of Delaware’s Department of Hospitality Business Management. Former Mayor Funk was instrumental in getting Taste of Newark started and has been a fixture at the event over its fourteen years.
