

U Don’t Need It 2019
U Don’t Need it is the annual Student move out program sponsored by both the City of Newark and the University of Delaware. This program offers a drop off location where students can take anything they don’t need or want when they leave the Newark area. All items collected are first offered to local charites, and then are made available to the public for purchase.
What Can be Dropped Off?
Some examples of items dropped off in the program are:
You can drop off pretty much anything you don’t want (or your former tenants did not want) to move back home. We accept the following items IN GOOD AND REUSABLE CONDITION:

- Living room chairs/ottomans
- Dining tables
- Dining chairs and stools
- Coffee tables and end tables
- Bookcases
- Storage units/cabinets/shelving units
- Entertainment centers
- Desks

This is a great program that helps others in the Newark community and also reduces the amount of refuse going into our landfills. You will need your student ID to avoid the $10 charge per load. For Graduating Students, Don’t forget to come back for Alumni Weekend.

Who Can Participate?
All UD students preparing to depart from Newark who:
- Have reusable items they can’t take with them.
- Care about the environment and want to reduce landfill waste.
- Want to encourage the opportunity to redirect reusable items to the local community.
All City of Newark landlords who:
- Have reusable items their tenants could not take with them.
- Care about the environment and want to reduce landfill waste.
- Want to encourage the opportunity to redirect reusable items to the local community.
Since 2007, U Don’t Need it has:
•Kept an estimated 500 tons of materials out of local landfills, thanks to donations of reusable items and the directed disposal and recycling efforts of project partner Green Delaware Recycling, LLC.
•Helped more than 200 families through our network of local charitable organizations by redirecting donated furniture and household goods to families in need.
•Donated more than 2,500 pounds of non–perishable foods to project partner Food Bank of Delaware.
•Donated approximately 7,000 pounds of clothing, shoes, and bedding materials to local charities.
